Counselling therapy provides you with a confidential and safe environment where you can talk to a trained professional about your emotional issues and problems that are affecting your life and wellbeing. It provides you with tools and strategies of learning how to deal with issues that are affecting your day to day life, family and relationships. Your Counsellor will help you to work through issues and problems that may have caused you to lose self-esteem, as well as your confidence in your own abilities.
Counselling can take different forms depending on your needs and what type of therapy may be suitable for the problems that are affecting you. This therapy helps you to better understand your feelings, emotions and behaviours and teaches you how to react in a more positive way to situations and other people’s behaviour which are affecting you.
A Counsellor’s role is not to tell you what to do and they are not qualified to prescribe you medication, but if they feel that you need additional help, then they will direct you towards another professional so that you can gain further support. This could include your GP or other Mental Health professionals.
