Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a therapy that can help you to change the way that you think, react and behave to situations around you.  It can help you to manage your problems, by changing your attitude (your cognitive processes) to thoughts, images and beliefs that you have and how you deal with problems that affect you emotionally.

It can help you to make sense of problems that are affecting your happiness, well-being and mental health.  It helps you by breaking down these overwhelming problems into 5 smaller areas which are thoughts, emotions, physical feelings, actions and situations.   You will then learn strategies of dealing with things and your therapist will work with you to find solutions to your problems.

CBT is based on the concept of these 5 areas being interconnected and affecting each other. For example, your thoughts about a certain situation can often affect how you feel both physically and emotionally, as well as how you act in response.
